View from Rocket Road of Klein
Leeukop and the backs of the Apostles
Above: This trig beacon is on the small
peninsula that leads to Oude Schip
Below: The Rocket House
poured it in situ, at that time. From
here you can also see the wreck of the
Bos 400, which ran aground in 1994.
There is a path that leads off the
far side of the open road but under no
circumstances should you let any
children or dogs venture along it. The
land is very steep and loose, and very
dangerous, and one slip could mean a
lethal tumble onto the rocks below.
The path down the hill to Oude Schip
is steep and gravelly and very slippery
underfoot. It is far easier to walk up
than down and care should be taken
with younger children. The path from
Llandudno joins the path from Rocket
House near the rocky shoreline.
As mentioned, it is possible to cross
to the island at low tide so check out
the tide charts at the back of Full
Circle to plan the day and timing of
your hike – aim to arrive as the tide is
reaching its lowest ebb to give
yourself maximum time to explore the
island and cross the narrow channel
again before the tide sweeps in.
The route to the water from the
beacon is down a steep, rocky slope
and you need to keep an eye on, and a
hand out,
