SPECTACULAR DRAGON BOATS TAKE TO THE WATERS OF
THE ZANDVLEI INLAND WATERWAY AT MUIZENBERG
Saturday 17 October 2009 promises to be
another colourful, fun-packed day as teams
compete for the coveted winner’s trophy in
the 3rd Annual Dragon Boat Festival to be
held by the Cape of Good Hope Rotary Club.
This annual event provides an exciting day’s
dragon-boat racing; a ‘rubber duck’ race for all
the land-lovers and the opportunity to support
the Cape of Good Hope Rotary Club with their
ongoing community projects in the Southern
Peninsula. The Zandvlei Yacht Club grounds
provide ample space for families and friends to
enjoy the day while watching and encouraging
the participating teams. Refreshments will be on
sale.
This year each boat will be manned by 10
novice paddlers, an experienced helmsman to
steer the boat and a drummer to set the
paddling rhythm as the team paddles in unison
to the drum-beat. Four boats will take place in
the heats with the day culminating in a nail-biting
final.
Experienced members of the Western Cape
Dragon Boat Association will load and unload
the boats. A safety-boat manned by fully-
qualified life-guards will be on standby to ensure
the safety of all participants.
The companies that have supported this event
for the last few years have benefited from the
team-building opportunities, the publicity and
media coverage, and are proud to be associated
with the Cape of Good Hope Rotary Club’s
charitable projects
The cost for a team of 10 is only R4 500 with
all profits going to the Cape of Good Hope
Rotary projects in the South Peninsula.

thus affects their BBBEE rating.
